Fifth Statistical Congress of Turkey

Invitation
All statisticians, scientists and professionals interested in attending scientific meetings focusing on recent developments in statistics, gaining valuable knowledge through short courses, participating in panel and forum discussions, and most importantly, meeting with colleagues are cordially invited by The Turkish Statistical Association and The (Turkish) Society of Statisticians to the 5th Statistical Congress.

Contributed Papers/Posters
It is expected that contributed papers/posters will be related with statistical theory or original statistical applications on the other scientific areas. Besides that, the papers/posters that explain some statistical methods with numerical examples will be accepted. Proposed contributed papers/posters will be examined by referees in this context.

Short Courses
12-15 hours courses will be arranged based on the demands and needs of the participants. These courses aim to provide participants with general knowledge and broaden their professional horizons. This will be an opportunity for individuals with busy schedules to improve their knowledge on essential and engaging subjects in a short period of time.

Panel Discussions
The experts from public and private sector organizations will share and discuss their opinions on current issues with the participants, and evaluate the similar and different point of views during round table discussions.

Forum Discussions
Forum discussions administered by forum leaders will provide the opportunity for participants to exhange their own point of views and experiences on predetermined topics.

Languages
Even so Turkish is the official language, at least six sessions will be organize in English. within ISTKON5 and ISTKON5/RMS events.

General Rules
1. Abstracts should be submitted electronically through the website and must be limited to no more than two pages including text and formulas. These abstracts will be published in an ISTKON5 Abstract Book.
2. Prospective authors are encouraged to submit their abstracts as soon as possible. The deadline for abstract submission is 20 April, 2007.
3. Authors should follow the formatting instructions for their manuscripts and are strongly encouraged to use the provided templates for Microsoft Word, PDF and LaTeX.
4. The maximum limit of an Invited Paper (IP) is 8 pages and the maximum size of Contributed Papers (CPs) is 4 pages, including abstracts. Submitted papers will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee and the papers exceeding these limits will be shortened for publication.
5. Submission of CPs will be available online once the abstracts are accepted for publication in the ISTKON5 Abstract Book. The acceptance is conditional upon payment of the registration fee.
The Proceedings will be published in The (Turkish) Society of Statisticians on the Internet.

Time Allocation
The minimum number of speakers in sessions is 4-5. Sessions normally consist of:

(i) short introductory remarks by the Chair,
(ii) presentation of the papers by their authors,
(iii) general discussion of the papers,
(iv) short replies by the authors.

Each author will have normally 15-20 minutes for his/her presentation.

Paper Submission
Submission of the abstracts, as well as the Invited and Contributed Papers, is now open. You are invited to submit abstracts and papers until 20 April, 2007.

To submit your abstract and paper, you must click on the Registration entry in the main menu and login on your personal area with your E-mail and Access Key.

1. The full papers must be submitted as a .pdf file in the format prescribed in the “Instructions for the Preparation of Manuscripts”.
2. The paper may be written in English or Turkish.
3. The papers must not have been published before ISTKON5.
4. Authors unable to submit papers via the website should contact cenap@hacettepe.edu.tr This email address is being protected from spam bots.
5. Until the closing date, authors can update or replace their papers through the author zone on the website using their personalized Access Key.
You are required to use the Access Key to submit your paper title and full paper, and to register for the İSTKON5. The personalized key will automatically bring up your personal details already completed on the previous forms.


Major Deadlines
The major deadlines regarding the ISTKON5 have been established.

20 April 2007 Deadline for submission of the abstracts (notification of acceptance will be done in four days)
24 April 2007 Participation fee payment for all participants including authors of both invited and contributed papers
20 May 2007 Suggested arrival day, Welcome Cocktail in the evening.
21 May 2007 Congress opens
24 May 2007 The Congress will end on Thursday at 12.30 pm.

The Antalya airport   provides connections mainly with cites.   It is also possible to fly to Antalya and to continue by bus or taxi to the Pine Beach Resort (taxies running from the Antalya airport to Pine Beach Resort take approximately 30-40 minutes).
